Special OU Men’s Basketball Ticket Offer
December 14, 2007
Here is some information I recevied from the OU Athletic Department that I thought was really cool (no pun intended) considering the horrible weather conditions that have plagued the state recently:
NORMAN- This week has been very tough for many Oklahomans with recent winter weather and resulting power outages. In response to that, the University of Oklahoma Athletics Department has announced plans to offer $5 tickets to Saturday’s men’s basketball game vs. Arkansas for all those affected by this past week’s winter storm and all OU faculty and staff. In addition, OU students are being offered free admission for the game with an OU ID.
“We realize there are members of our community who are going through a difficult time right now” said Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Programs and Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione “It has been a long week for many people, including members of our own staff, so we want to offer a special opportunity to come have some fun, support our Sooners, and display our great spirit to a national TV audience.
The 2007 Big 12 Champion football team will also be at Saturday’s game. Players will sign autographs from 1:00-2:00 pm on the upper concourse (one item per person please). The team will be recognized at halftime and address the crowd.
Oklahoma men’s basketball rally towels will be in every seat of the arena for all fans as well.
Saturday’s game vs. Arkansas tips off at 2:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN2 in front of a nationally-televised audience.
To purchase tickets , call 800-456-GoOU. There are a limited number of tickets available for the game. Tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis and are subject to availability.
Let us keep all the people of Oklahoma in our prayers as they attempt to get there lives back to normal.
One Year Early
December 11, 2007
As disappointed as I am that the Sooners will not be playing for the National Championship in New Orleans on January 7, I am excited for what the future holds. As young as the team was this year they were able to accomplish a lot. The most pleasant surprise was the play of red shirt freshman QB Sam Bradford. This young man played like a seasoned veteran all year long and if it had not been for a concussion in the game against Texas Tech, he would have been considered a Heisman Finalist and been playing for the National Championship. By all accounts, the Sooners are still a year away from being considered one of the best in the nation.
Young and Improving
The fact that Oklahoma has only a few senior players leaving this year, and if all the underclassmen stay in school, this team should open next year as the number one team in the nation. I will admit I am biased when it comes to the Sooners and I believe they should be ranked number one to start next season, my heart tells me the media and coaches will put USC in the top spot.
Fiesta Bowl Outlook
Enough about next year, I will be proven right at that time. As far as the Fiesta Bowl is concerned, West Virginia had better bring there “A” game. Pat White has to be healthy for them to have a chance of beating the Sooners. West Virginia is being talked about nationally as one the top five teams beginning next year so this game will determine where these two teams are ranked in the first pre-season poll of 2008. Both teams have speed at key positions, but the Sooners have the advantage on defense.
The Prediction
Although I expect a good game between Oklahoma and West Virginia, I think the game will be decided on a key play in the third quarter. My prediction:
Oklahoma 37 West Virginia 21
Did you expect something different?
Sooners Heading to Fiesta
December 2, 2007
After winning the Big 12 championship game against then-No. 1 ranked Missouri, Oklahoma will be playing Jan. 1 in the Fiesta Bowl against West Virginia, which had hoped to play in the national title game until a disappointing loss to Pitt.
Oklahoma missed a try at the national title (which will go to Ohio State or LSU) by losing to Texas Tech.
The Fiesta Bowl takes place in Glendale, Arizona, and will air at 8 p.m. Eastern time (that’s 7 p.m. in the Sooner Nation) on FOX.
Missouri, by the way, is headed to Dallas and the Cotton Bowl against Arkansas, which, ironically, is one of the two teams that beat LSU this year. What a crazy ride!
